For those of you who have already read The Journey of Joseph Winter, you will be familiar with the St. Paul Union Depot as the location from which Timothy and Joseph depart and head out on their journey.

The Union Depot is a real location downtown, and just recently went through a $243 million renovation (see image above). Train service ended 41 years ago, but has now resumed.

The image below is a glimpse into what it would have looked like about the time of Joseph’s journey.

Somewhere in that photo, I like to think that Joseph and Timothy are walking through the concourse, about to see little Max for the very first time.

And begin a very special Journey.
